The Russian Ideology - Editorial Illustration
An article cover, for an overview on the ideology of the Russian State, and its leader, Vladimir Putin.
The illustration had to contain the person of interest in a prominent point, with a specific color scheme in mind for the whole picture. A specific image set wasn't present at the outset, but over time, the client gravitated to a series of prominent government and other control figures related to Putin as one of the variants.
An alternative variant was made, simply using the Kremlin Palace as the background image. The descriptive text on the right was present earlier in development, and while it is excessive when human faces are present, it adds much needed visual flair in the alternative.
The cover is inspired by various artists, key among them being Lex Villena, whose work I have admired for quite a while. His style influenced the use of texture, imitation of paper elements, implied depth and other features.
